We've Been Blogged.....

Poking About in the tiny, out of the way places:

Our recent guests are avid paddlers, and Skamokawa is a great place to paddle. From the quiet waters of Brooks Slough and Skamokawa Creek, to the challenges of the Columbia, this is a place for new, and experienced kayakers and canoeists. Kayaks and canoes can be rented just down the creek (a five minute walk) at the Skamokawa Center, or you can lauch your own (as our guests did) from our dock.

This is their post about their stay. Skamokawa is indeed, a special place.

Kayak Heaven, for the experienced, or not so....

The Lower Columbia can be a paddler's challenge, but here in Skamokawa are also great places to wet your paddle with quiet backwater sloughs and streams where your only company will be herons, eagles, otters and the quiet that comes with being away from flightpaths and highways. Trips can range from morning or afternoon paddles, to the entire day. We'll pack the lunch! For absolute novices, expert instruction can be arranged right here at the dock at Twin Gables from practiced and certified instructors.

Here (Scroll down a bit and click again on the yellow 'Bungalow' title) is a great post about local paddling from the blog of Trub, at Sneaky Whale.com

Comfy Beds...

Here's a look at room "22". The room overlooks Skamokawa Creek. It has a queen bed, private shower and toilet, the sink is in the main room.

And tea by the fire.....
After a winter's walk, take a break. Tea for one, two, or larger groups by request.

When the Bread Sings...

you can hear it, as the crust crackles with the temperature change as it is removed from the oven. This is a loaf of our ‘everyday’ bread, or cottage loaf. Free-formed loaves are prettier, but the pan shape is much better for toasters!

The Twin Gables Bed and Breakfast is located in the Skamokawa Historic District in SW Washington State. We anticipate opening in Summer of 2007, please check back for details of accomodations and specials.

Welcome to Breakfast ...

This morning, my favorite: poached egg on toast. Eggs from Wooden Bridge Farm, just up the road. Toast from home made cottage bread.

Breakfasts and optional dinners feature locally produced vegetables, eggs, chicken, sausage, and locally caught salmon.

Start your day with fresh brewed coffee waiting just outside your door, when you're awake and alive, enjoy your breakfast in the creek-facing dining room, at your own table.

View of the Twin Gables from Skamokawa Creek. As late as the 1930s, all homes in the area were accessed by water. There was no highway.

In the black and white photo, the twin roofs of Twin Gables can be seen rendered as medium gray on the houses to the right. As you can see, they fronted directly on the creek. There was even less 'front yard' than there is today.

On the Lower Columbia Water Trail, guests can boat, canoe or kayak right up to the 27 foot dock. Enjoy your shore leave with queen beds, endless hot water and home cooked meals featuring fresh, local ingredients.
